WILLIAM CURTIS ‘W.C.’ CLEWIS
WHITEVILLE -- William Curtis “W.C.” Clewis, 61, of the Crusoe community died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. He was the son of the late Curtis Alton Clewis.
Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church with Reverends Clayton “Neil” Rivenbark and Richard Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.
He is survived by three daughters, Kimberly Gurganus of Leland, Crystal Hardee of Loris, S.C., and Tabitha Clewis of Nakina; a stepson, Neil Rivenbark of Bolivia; his mother, Clara Suggs Watts of Whiteville; four sisters, Mary Elizabeth Brady of Ash, Mildred Hardwick and Myrtle McCumbee, both of Whiteville, and Eunice Ward of Chadbourn; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1 at the funeral home.
JERRY BYRD
WHITEVILLE -- Jerry Byrd, 65, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. He was the son of the late William Ace Byrd and Elizabeth Batten Byrd. He was preceded in death by a sister, Iola Rhodes and two brothers, Perlie Byrd and Julius Byrd.
Byrd attended the Hallsboro Church of God.
Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Hallsboro Church of God with Rev. Danny Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Byrd Cemetery. McKenzie Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Mercer Byrd of Whiteville; his daughters, Pamela Reynolds and Sharon Sikes, both of Whiteville; two stepsons, Nathan Walker of Bladenboro and Timothy Walker of Whiteville; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 1 from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

CHADBOURN -- Wesley Gene Britt, 70, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. He was the son of the late Carl Thomas “Tommy” Britt and Donnie Mae Kellihan Rogers.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, at the Kellihan Family Cemetery in Chadbourn with Rev. Bryan Blackwell officiating. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Eula Mae Simmons of the home; sons, Jerry Simmons and Hunter Britt, both of the home; daughters, Helen S. Britt of Chadbourn, Sondra Hunsucker of Denton, and Sandra Britt of the home; brothers, Marshall Rogers of Fayetteville and Paul Rogers of Whiteville; a sister, Ella Mae Rogers of Tabor City; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

CHADBOURN -- Retha Cartrette, 92, of the Beaverdam community, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008, at her home. She was born in Columbus County, the daughter of the late William Augusta Worley and Julie Duncan Worley. She was the widow of Clarence Carvin Cartrette.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Beaverdam Freewill Baptist Church with Reverends Buster Benton and Morris Worley officiating. Burial will follow in the McPherson Cemetery in Chadbourn. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.
She is survived by a son, Linwood Cartrette of Clarendon; two daughters, Faye Simmons and Vema Cribb, both of Chadbourn; a brother, Horace Worley of Chadbourn; two sisters, Margie Hinson of Chadbourn, Doris Hinson of Clarendon; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31 at the funeral home.

TABOR CITY -- Lisa Renee Harris, 37, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at her residence. She was born in Horry County, S.C., the daughter of Jimmy Michael Lyles and Mary Lou Norris Lyles.
Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at the Inman Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Josh Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in the Myrtle Green Cemetery in Tabor City. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, Lee Harris of Tabor City; her parents, Rev. and Mrs. Michael Lyles of Green Sea, S.C.; a son, Daniel Lee Harris of Tabor City; a daughter, Savannah Grace Harris of Tabor City; a brother, Michael Blake Lyles of Little Rock, Ark.; paternal grandparents, Harry and Louise Lyles of Green Sea, S.C.

LAKE WACCAMAW -- Rev. Ronald B.Campbell, 55, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at Columbus Regional Healthcare.
Campbell served as a chaplain at Advantage Hospice and was pastor of Union Baptist Church of Lake Waccamaw.
Final rites will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at East Columbus High School Auditorium with Minister Aaron Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda Spaulding Brown of Lake Waccamaw and Sheila Spaulding of Whiteville; a sister, Beverly Spaulding of Clarkton; his brothers, John C. Campbell of Plainfield, N.J. and Aaron Campbell of Watchung, N.J.
Friends may visit the family at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Gregory Spaulding, 1120 Carver Moore Road in Clarkton.
Viewing will be at the funeral home on Friday, Feb. 1 from noon until 6 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 2 from 10-11 a.m. Viewing will be at East Columbus High School Saturday one hour prior to the service, and there will be no viewing after the service. There will be a wake Friday, Feb. 1 from 7-9 p.m. at the church.

KATE HARRELSON ROGERS
CONWAY, S.C. -- Kate Harrelson Rogers, 79, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at Conway Medical Center. She was born in Conway, S.C., a daughter of the late Edgar Valentine and Frostie Belle Cribbs Harrelson. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Conway.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, at Goldfinch Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Revisky officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Goldfinch Funeral Home of Conway, S.C. is handling the arrangements.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Ruper Benjamin Rogers of Conway, S.C.; a son, Ben Rogers of Conway, S.C.; a daughter, Jan Rogers of Conway, S.C.; a sister, Winifrede Richardson of Aynor, S.C.

CLARKTON -- Naomi Carr Hunter, 77, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, at Columbus Regional Healthcare.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at El-Bethel Church in Whiteville with Elder Robert D. Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Campground Cemetery in Whiteville. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include two sisters, Alice Richardson of Whiteville and Margie Collins of Miami, Fla.
Viewing will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, Jan. 30 from noon-7 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m.-noon. Viewing will be at the church Thursday following the service.

LUCILLE McLAMB HARDISON
CLARKTON -- Lucille McLamb Hardison, 70, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Martha McLamb; a son, Davy Ricky Hardison; two brothers and two sisters.
Final rites were held Sunday, Jan. 27, at Bladen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Warren Hill officiating. Burial followed Monday, Jan. 28, at the Clarkton Cemetery.
Survived by two sons, Jeffery Hardison of Elizabethtown and Dale L. Hardison of Clarkton; a daughter, Deborah Brisson of Dublin; two brothers, R.C. McLamb of Clarkton and Ronnie McLamb of Bladenboro; two sisters, Veronica Harris of Clarkton and Fostine Hamilton of Seven Springs; and four grandchildren.
MACY ANDREAS ANDREWS
RIEGELWOOD -- Macy Andreas Andrews, 46, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was born July 13, 1961 in Wilmington the son of Cornelia Erthel Andrews and the late Aaron “Buckshot” Carter.
Andrews was a graduate of Acme-Delco High School in 1979. He served in the United States Army immediately following high school. He was a member of Pleasant Union Baptist Church, He was a skilled brick mason.
Final rites were held Sunday, Jan. 27, at Berline P. Graham Auditorium (East Arcadia Elementary School) in Riegelwood with Rev. Ronnie Clairda officiating. Dunn Funeral Home of Burgaw handled the arrangements.
He is survived by his children, Britane Andrews Graham and Tremaine Andrews; his parents, Marlow and Cornelia Saulter; grandmother, Ida Andrews Young; sisters, Felicia Saulter Pollard, Bridgette Saulter Copeland, Monique Saulter, and Keshia Carter Hunter; brothers, Dion Saulter, Craig Carter, and Stephen Carter.
ALPHA FORMYDUVAL
OLD DOCK -- Alpha Formyduval, 89, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008. She was born in Columbus County on Jan. 28, 1918 the daughter of the late Joshua and Mortie Long, and the widow of the late Elbert C. Formyduval.
Formyduval was a member of Palmyra Baptist Church.
Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, at Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines with Rev. Roy Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Peacock’s Columbus Memorial Park. Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines is handling the arrangements.
She is survived by a daughter, Beatrice F. “Bea” Sellers and husband, Wayne of Whiteville; a granddaughter, Angie Sellers of Raleigh; three sisters, Alma Tison and Martha Edge, both of Whiteville, Mary Ann Tison of Roanoke, Va.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ernest Long, Eugene Long, and Samuel Long.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29 prior to the service at the funeral home.
