LEWIS HOLLOWAY


WHITEVILLE -- Lewis Holloway, 74, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center in Wilmington.


Final rites will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at Peoples Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Cornell Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Campground Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.


Survivors include three sisters, Carrie Bell Crow, Susie Mae Holloway, and Annie Pearl Johnson of August, Ga.


Viewing will be at the funeral home Friday, May 9 from noon until 8 p.m. and Saturday, May 10 from 10 a.m. until time for the service.

CHARLOTTE RUTH PAUL EASON


CONWAY, S.C. -- Charlotte Ruth Paul Eason, 86, widow of the late Richard Cravon Eason, went home to be with her Lord Thursday, May 8, 2008, at Kingston Nursing Center.


Mrs. Eason was born in Horry County, a daughter of the late Robert Wilson and Mary Lenora Martin Paul. She was a member of Waccamaw Presbyterian Church and attended Union United Methodist Church. She was predeceased by one son, Wilson Richard Eason; nine brothers, Moses, Corbitt, Bennie, Gene, Hildon, Earl, Kelly, James, and Robert Paul; three sisters, Lela Roberts, Emmie Thurston, Mary Louise Paul, a son-in-law, Joseph H. Hucks Jr.; and one great-granddaughter.


Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 10, at Waccamaw Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Troy Metzner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway, S.C. Chapel is handling the arrangements.


She is survived by a daughter, Mae E. Hucks of Conway, S.C.; six grandchildren, Richard Eason, Freddie Eason, Charlotte Messier, Joseph H. Hucks III, Carie Hucks, and Maggie Dawsey; nine great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.


The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 9 at the funeral home.

DOROTHY H. HAWES


ELIZABETHTOWN -- Dorothy H. Hawes, 98, died Thursday, May 8, 2008. She was born in Horry County the daughter of the late Samuel Haskell Harrelson and Blanche Anderson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Davis Hawes and by a son, Billy Hawes, a grandson, two brothers, and three sisters.


Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at Bladen-Gaskin Funeral Home with Rev. Edward Lancaster officiating. There will be a private burial. Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is handling the arrangements.


She is survived by a son, Dennis Hawes of Elizabethtown; two daughters, Barbara Villarreal of Tucson, Ariz., and Beth Webster of Surfside Beach, S.C.; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two step-grandchldren, and a step great-grandchild.


Visitation will be held on Saturday from 1-1:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

EVERGREEN -- Bonnie Smith Shingleton, 87, formerly of Hampstead, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Shoreland Healthcare of Whiteville. She was the daugher of the late Daniel Joseph and Regina Melinda Barnes Smith and the widow of David James Shingleton.


A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the cemetery for Latter Day Saints in Hampstead with Rev. Roger Wright and Counselor Joe Shingleton officiating.

Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.

DR. RAE LYNN YATES


OCEAN ISLE -- Dr. Rae Lynn Yates, 38, formerly of Chadbourn, died Monday, May 5, 2008, at her residence.


Yates attended West Columbus High School and was a high school graduate of the N.C. School of Science and Math in Durham. she was a graduate of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, and completed medical school at East Carolina University School of Medicine in Greenville. She was a physician at Seaside Medical at Sunset Beach.


Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at Chadbourn Baptist Church with Reverends Sean Roberds, Hubert McCleney, and Sam Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in the Piney Forest Baptist Church Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.


She is survived by her husband, Christopher Strickland of the home; daughter, Christian Strickland of the home; mother and stepfather, Carolyn D. and Ken Simmons of Chadbourn; father and stepmother, Raymond W. and Ruth J. Yates Jr. of Chadbourn; sister, Heather Hinson of Chadbourn; brothers, Christopher R. Yates of New York City, N.Y. and Wesley L. Yates of Boone.

HALLSBORO -- Jean V. Brown, 62, died Saturday, May 3, 2008, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center in Wilmington.


Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 9, at New Light Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Gabrilla Garrett. Burial will be held in Hallsboro Memorial Park. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.


She is survived by five sisters, Blondell Morrow of St. Louis, Mont., Mavis Randall and Glenda Bryant of Hallsboro, Mary Cozan of New Rochelle, N.Y., and Johnnie May Wright of Aberdeen, Md.

Viewing will be at the funeral home Thursday from noon-8 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m.-noon. Viewing will be at the church Friday one hour prior to the service, and there will be no viewing after the service.

EDNA N. ALLEN


CHARLOTTE HALL, Md. -- Edna N. Allen, 71, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at her residence. She was born Feb. 22, 1937 in Clarendon. She was the daughter of the late John H. Norris and Lula Long Norris.


Allen was a bank teller. She was a member of Hughesville Baptist Church women’s ministry and Bible study.


The family will receive friends on Friday, May 9, from 10 a.m. until noon at Hughesville Baptist Church, 8505 Leonardtown Rd. in Hughesville, Md. A celebration of life will be held at noon with Rev. Keith Corrick officiating. Burial will follow on Monday, May 12, at noon at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Tabor City. Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., of Charlotte Hall, Md. is handling the arrangements. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City is announcing for the family.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond Burton Allen Jr.; two sisters, Levonia Starnes of Wilmington and Martha Chaplin of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and a brother, James Norris of Clarendon.

COUNCIL -- James Whitney Jones, 66, died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at Bladen County Hospital in Elizabethtown.


Final rites will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at Kitchen Branch Missionary Baptist Church in Council with Rev. Patrick McNair officiating. Burial will follow in the Carvers Creek Cemetery. Johnson’s Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is handling the arrangements.


He is survived by his wife, Louise Jones of the home; a son, Brian Parry of Council; a daughter, Theresa Jones of Washington, D.C.; his mother, Marease Moore of Council; four brothers, George Jones, Willie Moore, and David Jones, all of Council, and Michael Moore of Tar Heel; and a sister, Lacilaticia Troy of Elizabethtown.


Viewing will be held Wednesday, May 7 from 1-6 p.m. atl the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m.

HALLSBORO -- Jean V. Brown, 62, died Saturday, May 3, 2008, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center in Wilmington.

LILLIAN PARKER ALTEME


SNELLVILLE, Ga. -- Lillian Parker Alteme, 78, formerly of Hallsboro, died Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at Embracing Hospice Care.


Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, at Second St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Hallsboro. Burial will follow in the Hallsboro Memorial Park. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.


Survivors include three daughters, Pearl Etienne, Clarissa Grissette, and Gretchen Grissette of Lawrenceville, Ga.; and a sister, Nellie Grissette of Lumberton.

ELIZABETHTOWN -- Linda Ray Adams, 47, died Friday, May 2, 2008, at Bladen County Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Jackson L. Adams and Beulah McMillian Adams of Elizabethtown.


Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, at Baldwin Branch Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. David Camps officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Smith Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.


She is survived by a sister, Faye Adams Davis of Elizabethtown; and a brother, Larry Adams of Greensboro.


Viewing will be at the funeral home on Monday from noon until 8 p.m., and on Tuesday from 2 p.m. until time for the service.

MARGARET DAVIS
CARROLL


ELIZABETHTOWN -- Margaret Davis Carroll, 89, died on Thursday, May 1, 2008. She was born in Bladen County the daughter of the late Jarvis and Irene Davis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Carroll and her daughter, Elizabeth “Libby” Chie.


Final rites were held Sunday at Elizabethtown Baptist Church with Dr. David Elkes officiating. Burial followed in Bladen Memorial Gardens. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown handled the arrangements.


She is survived by two daughters, Janice Foutch of Michigan, and Sue Hemingway of Elizabethtown; three sisters, Helen Ward of Hamlet, Betty Williams of Rockingham, and Dorothy Cannady of Bladenboro; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

GLADYS MILES


CERRO GORDO -- Gladys Miles, 93, died Thursday, May 1, 2008, at Premier Living at Lake Waccamaw.


Final rites will be held at noon Wednesday, May 7, at Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Robert D. Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Tabor Memorial Gardens. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.


Survivors include her daughter, Marcella Vereen of Cerro Gordo; and three sons, Solomon T. Miles and IrvinMiles, both of Washington, D.C., and Reginald Miles of Philadelphia, Pa.


Viewing will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from noon until 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9-10 a.m. Viewing will be at the church Wednesday one hour prior to the service, and there will be no viewing after the service. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home.


Friends may visit the family at the home of Marcella Vereen, 281 Cedar St., Cerro Gordo.

ROBERT HICKS


WHITEVILLE -- Robert Hicks, 82, died Monday, May 5, 2008. He was born Oct. 27, 1925. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Odessa Bass Hicks. He was a retired mechanic with the city of Whiteville and a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Korean War.


Graveside services were conducted Wednesday, May 7, at Peacock’s Columbus Memorial Park with Rev. Vernon McKeithan officiating. Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.


He is survived by two stepsons, Robert Harrelson of Hatteras Island and Sonny Harrelson of Sumter, S.C., a stepdaughter, Judy Stuart of Bell, Fla., eight step-grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
