A. R. AMMONS POETRY CONTEST - 2008

Contest Rules:

1.  Original poems may be entered in Divisions I through IV by any student who is now a resident of Columbus County or attends school in Columbus County at the time of submission.

2.  The first four poetry divisions are as follows:  Div. I: Kindergarten - 2nd Grade; Div. II: 3rd - 5th Grade; Div. III:  6th - 8th Grade; Div. IV: 9th - 12th Grade. The school grade during 2007-08 determines the Division for each student.

3.  Division V shall be for original poetry written by students enrolled in undergraduate college coursework. Eligible individuals will be those enrolled at the time of submission in an undergraduate course in a North Carolina college or technical school or those enrolled in out-of-state undergraduate institutions who are residents of Columbus County. Students simultaneously enrolled in college and high school coursework may choose the division in which they compete, but may compete in only one division.

4.  Prizes will be awarded as follows:  All Divisions - Monetary prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Places; certificates for Honorable Mention.  

5.  All entries must be accompanied by a separate Official Entry Form or a copy.  A student may enter up to five poems.  THE STUDENT’S NAME SHOULD NOT APPEAR ON THE POEM(S), ONLY ON THE ENTRY FORM(S). Entries may be mailed in by student, parent or school personnel, but THE STUDENT MUST SIGN THE ENTRY FORM PERSONALLY.

6.  All entries will be judged anonymously by a committee, and all prizes will be awarded solely at the discretion of the judges.

7.  This year’s entries must be postmarked by February 16, 2008 and must be received by the Committee Secretary no later than February 23, 2008.
